Royal EVO FAQ

Q.  What are the differences between the EVO 9 and 12?

A.  The main differences are in the number of operational channels (9 or 12) and model memory (20 or 36).

Q. Can I use the synthesized module in my Evo that originally came with a fixed channel?

A. The modules are interchangeable.

Q. How do I set up mixes?

A. This is one of the most difficult features to explain in a FAQ.  The best solution is to download the tutorial from our website.  It explains in simple terms how to setup the most common mixes used.  Multiplex is also striving to create an open forum where users can share their mixes with one another. Users can share their mixes and ask others how to create mixes on the Hitec/Multiplex Talk found on our website.

Q. How do I update my EVO?

A. To update the EVO you will need a PC and one of the multiplex data cables (PN M85156).  Download the Datamanager from the Multiplex website and run the executable install it to a folder on your PC.  After installation, connect the data cable to your Evo and turn the transmitter on. The transmitter’s LED will be a solid red and the LCD will not turn on.  Make sure your transmitter has a minimum battery voltage of 7.2V before you do this.

Select the Datamanager icon on your desktop. The startup screen gives two choices, Model Data and Update.  Click on the update button.  You will be asked to select the correct update file.  The “browse” button allows you to search for available updates.  Please note: that you must choose the correct transmitter type.  If you have an Evo 9, then choose an update for the Evo 9 and not the Evo 12.  If the incorrect update is uploaded, the transmitter will become non-operational and require service.  Once the correct update is selected, click the next button to move to the next screen.  Select the appropriate language using the drop down menu. In the US, you must select the “US/ES” language pack to get shift select ability.  Move to the next screen and click on the finish button to complete the update.

Q. Where does the Evo fall within the Multiplex line?

A. The Evo has slightly more functions than the Profi 3030 but not as many as the Profi 4000.

Q. Can I charge and discharge the transmitter battery through the transmitter?

A. As stated in the manual, you can both charge and discharge your battery through the transmitter.  Please remember not to exceed 1.5A charge current or the transmitter may be damaged.

Q. I have a HFMS-72 module in my transmitter and now the transmitter says “No RF”.  What happened?

A. There are a few possibilities.  If this occurred right after the transmitter was charged, then it is possible that the charge plug was inserted incorrectly.  If this happened, the module must be sent in for service.

Another possibility is that the module is not seated properly.  Please open the back of the transmitter and reseat the module.  When doing this make sure to never touch the solder connections or the ICs of the motherboard and module.  Always ground yourself before attempting to remove the module, as static electricity will cause damage to the components.

Q. I have a pin number set in my Evo and I want to use the digi adjusters to control Expo in flight.  When I try to adjust the Expo, the security screen appears and I am unable to adjust the expo.  What do I do?

A. Before the expo can be adjusted in flight the pin number must be entered.  To do this, enter into one of the menus and try to make an adjustment. This will cause the security screen to appear and allow you to make the adjustment. From here on out you can make changes without entering your pin number.  This should be performed each time you turn the radio on.
